Bobby Alu and the Palm Royale grooves Live at Bond

Groove along to Bobby Alu and the Palm Royale as they share their Pacific beats, catchy tunes and powerful log drumming at Bond University's first 'Live at Bond' free concert for 2017 on Sunday, April 2, presented as part of Bleach* Festival.

Gold Coast local Bobby Alu and his Queensland-based band will take the stage in his hometown following an Australia-wide tour.

Inspired by his Polynesian heritage, Gold Coast born Bobby Alu gained a groundswell of fans across Australia and internationally after spending three years travelling the globe as Xavier Rudd's drummer.

He took out the 2015 Queensland Music Awards 'most popular male artist' title and his song 'Take It Slow' was hand-picked by Samoa Tourism last year (2016) as the theme song for its 'beautiful Samoa' roadshow campaign.

Bobby Alu will be joined by his charismatic band the Palm Royale - Paulie B, Stewart Barry, Richy Seymour, Hua Hillman and Robin Cummins - who have showcased their talent around Australia since performing their first show at the 2011 Byron Bay Blues Fest.

Bobby Alu said he was looking forward to sharing the stage with the Palm Royale who brought a new energy to his songs.

"The boys from the Palm Royale share my passion of advocating for a better world through song, which is why I am excited to collaborate with them," he said.

"I write music about love, life and travel - the kind of music that makes you smile - and the Palm Royale share that intention.

"I love playing in relaxed, outdoor environments, like Live at Bond, where everyone is in a great mood and can really take in the music.

"The last seven years have been absolutely amazing - travelling the world doing what I love with Xavier Rudd has been a dream come true and I'm looking forward to sharing what I have learnt with the Gold Coast community at Bond University as part of the at Bleach* Festival."

Bond University Bachelor of Laws and Journalism student, Braydon Poacher, who will be supporting Bobby Alu and the Palm Royale, said he would draw on inspiration from his idols - John Maher, Ed Sheeran, Elton John, Michael Jackson and John Butler.

Braydon, who has been performing for more than six years, has already featured in television advertisements, been broadcast on radio and performed for Molly Meldrum at a charity event in 2013.

"I'm looking forward to performing at Live at Bond so that I can share my music with the community in a familiar environment," he said.

"I will perform tracks from my 2015 full-length studio album 'Prologue' as well as some new music that I'm excited to share with the crowd."

Live at Bond kicks off with Braydon Poacher at 3:00pm on Sunday, April 2, followed by Bobby Alu and the Palm Royale from 3:45pm.

The performance is a free, all-ages event and will be held at Bond University's ADCO Amphitheatre.

Following the show, guests are encouraged to wander down to Varsity Lakes to catch Bleach* Festival's Varsity Daze installation entitled Fantastic Planet, by visual artist Amanda Parer.
