The world-renowned founders of Sydney-based Other Architects will lead the next instalment in the Architecture Lecture Series at Bond University on Thursday, July 21, in a free presentation challenging the conventional wisdom and popular opinion of architectural trends.
Grace Mortlock and David Neustein, founders of Other Architects and offshoot design organisation Otherothers, will discuss their approach to architecture that seeks to operate beyond the scope of conventional practice, in a public lecture at Bond University's award-winning Abedian School of Architecture.
The Architecture Lecture Series is a series of free events hosted by practitioners and academics who are helping to expand and explore the definition of architectural practice.
With work that has been showcased across the globe, Ms Mortlock and Mr Neustein's architectural expertise has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, CityLad, Architectual Record and Australian Financial Review.
Together they have taken part in the 2014 Venice Architecture Biennale, exhibited at the 2015 Chicago Architecture Biennial and are due to take part in a four year curatorial project launching in November in Dallas, Texas.
Chris Knapp, Assistant Professor of Architecture at Bond University, said the Architecture Lecture Series had grown exponentially since it first launched in 2013 and he encouraged anyone with a keen interest in architecture and design to attend.
"Grace and David's practice, Other Architects, is inspired by the idea of the 'other' - other ideas, other paths and other possibilities to conventional architectural practice," he said.
"Their presentation will explore their experiences in pushing boundaries and challenging the norm, which sets the tone for the remaining lectures in the series to follow later this year.
"Next to take the stage at Bond University will be Jimenez Lai of Los Angeles-based firm Bureau Spectacular, whose work has been widely acclaimed and is displayed at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and was a centrepiece at this year's Coachella Music and Arts Festival in California.
"Mr Lai's provocative, non-conformist approach to architecture has garnered much attention worldwide, and his presentation in September will be sure to impress."
The next instalment of the Architecture Lecture Series with Ms Mortlock and Mr Neustein of Other Architects will take place on Thursday, July 21 at Bond University's Abedian School of Architecture.
