Live at Bond and Bleach* Festival present The Ninth Chapter

Bond University's 'Live at Bond' free concert program is launching into the new year with the high-energy performance of seven-piece band The Ninth Chapter, presented as part of Bleach* Festival.

Bond University has partnered with the Gold Coast's annual celebration of arts and culture Bleach* Festival, running from March 4 to 20, with The Ninth Chapter's show on March 13 expected to draw crowds in this special musical event.

While firmly based in the raw 'funk and groove' genre, The Ninth Chapter’s signature sound casts a wide net, layering funk, blues, roots and other elements.

Renowned for their live shows, this energetic and expressive band has entertained thousands of fans up and down the east coast of Australia, including festival appearances at Woodford and the Caloundra Music Festival.

The Ninth Chapter’s most recent album 'EP3o' was recorded by Dave Atkins, who has worked with renowned bands such as Wolfmother and the Resin Dogs, with the EP receiving indie and Triple J acclaim following its release in late 2015.

Jaz Munro, The Ninth Chapter's lead singer and guitarist, said Live at Bond was a great opportunity for the band to showcase their latest songs to a Gold Coast crowd.

"This year will be the ninth year for The Ninth Chapter, we formed in 2007 as a three-piece and have gone on to add more and more band members over the years," he said.

"Because there are now seven musicians in the group, our live performances are such a high-energy experience and we are all excited to bring our show to the Live at Bond crowd.

"We really love playing these outdoor, afternoon gigs as they are always so relaxed and the crowd always have such a great vibe and are so genuine. We tend to match that energy from the audience so I expect the Live at Bond gig is going to be a lot of fun.

"It's always a challenge to capture the 'live sound' when you record however we think our latest EP has done a great job of capturing our essence, and we will have copies of EP3o available for purchase on the day for anyone who is keen to take a copy home.

"It has been a really great journey for us and we are looking forward to playing the Live at Bond show as part of Bleach* Festival."

Opening for the Ninth Chapter at Live at Bond will be local talent Aquila Young, whose captivating energy and alluring presence has blown audiences away at the Brisbane Festival, Bleach* Festival and Glow Festival.

Aquila's music combines ambient textures and tones to create a sound she calls 'dreamscape noir', with the talented musician having shared the stage with fellow Australian artists Bob Evans, TSUN and MT Warning.

"I am really looking forward to meeting some new faces and find a new home crowd at Live at Bond," she said.

"The band and I have planned something a bit different for the performance by experimenting with our instrumentation to create a show and sound that is truly unique for the day."

The Live at Bond concert series has built a strong following of fans and music lovers from the wider community and showcases a combination of professional headline artists and emerging musicians.

Guests are invited to bring a chair, rug or picnic blanket and enjoy an afternoon of free music and entertainment, with two bars serving beer, wine, champagne, drinks and snacks, plus an on-site coffee van.

Live at Bond kicks off with Aquila Young at 3pm on Sunday, March 13, followed by The Ninth Chapter taking the stage at 3.45pm.

The event will be held at Bond University's ADCO Amphitheatre, and is a free, all-ages show.
