Dean's Awards Ceremony

The Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine hosted the first Dean’s Awards Ceremony for 2010 in the Princeton Room on Wednesday 17 February. Attended by 120 guests, the event celebrated and recognised the outstanding academic achievements of Faculty students in the September 2009 semester. Acting Head of School of Health Sciences, Professor Shayne Quick oversaw the evening as Master of Ceremonies.

This was a particularly important occasion for new Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, Professor Richard Hays.

“It takes a significant amount of dedication and commitment to attain the high standard of academic excellence our students have achieved, I am very proud to attend my first Awards Ceremony as Dean of the Faculty” said Professor Hays.

Students were awarded for:

  • First in Class achievements - Awarded to the student who achieved the highest overall grade for the subject, where the highest grade is greater than or equal to 85%
  • Dean’s List for Academic Excellence - Awarded to full-time students who attain a semester percentage average of between 82% and 84% inclusive and;
  • Vice Chancellor’s list for Academic Excellence - Awarded to full-time students attaining a semester percentage of greater than or equal to 85%.

Newly elected President of the Health Sciences and Medicine Student Association (HMSA), Christine Rizkallah, presented Dr Sonya Marshall with the HMSA Teaching Excellence Award and Ms Natika O’Sullivan the HMSA General Staff Excellence Award.

Jessica McDonald, current MBBS student, was presented with the first Services to the Faculty Award in recognition for her services to the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine in the September 2009 semester by Acting Marketing Manager Kara O’Dwyer.

“I look forward to seeing our high achieving students continue with successes in their studies and all future endeavours” said Professor Hays.

The next Dean’s Awards Night will be held on Wednesday 16 June to recognise and celebrate the outstanding academic achievements of Faculty students in the January 2010 semester.
