Abedian School of Architecture named Gold Coast `Building of the Year'

Bond University’s Abedian School of Architecture (ASA) has been named ‘Public Building of the Year’ at the 2014 Gold Coast & Northern Rivers Regional Architecture Awards.

The innovative, ultra-modern new building, designed by globally renowned architects Sir Peter Cook and Gavin Robotham from CRAB Studios, London and built by ADCO Constructions,  also received the ‘People’s Choice’ award and received a Regional Commendation, which means it will now be considered at the state-level Australian Institute of Architect’s (AIA) awards in June.

Assistant Professor of Architecture, Matthew Eagle also won ‘House of the Year’ for his project in Palm Beach, which several of our Architecture students were fortunate enough to tour last semester when it was under construction. His house will also be in the running for the AIA’s Queensland Architecture Awards in June.

The AIA jury of industry experts said the Abedian School of Architecture was a clear expression of an aspirational approach to design education.

“The idea of a collaborative learning is evident and complete in the entire building through its exquisite concrete structure, walls and surfaces to the furniture and elements of design process that inhabit the space,” they said.

The 2014 Gold Coast & Northern Rivers Regional Architecture Awards were announced on Friday, 28 February, at Dreamworld and the Big Brother House.
