LAWS13-569: Legal Research Project

Description

Legal Research Project is an elective subject in the Bachelor of Laws program offered by the Faculty of Law. To be eligible to graduate with Honours, a Bachelor of Laws student who commenced their program in or after 2015 must complete this subject in the final or penultimate semester of their Bachelor of Laws program. Students enrolled in this subject will work on a legal research project under the supervision of a Faculty of Law academic staff member. Students will research and write a substantial research paper on an approved topic, while developing their skills in legal methodology and critical thinking.

Learning outcomes

Assumed knowledge:

Assumed knowledge is the minimum level of knowledge of a subject area that students are assumed to have acquired through previous study. It is the responsibility of students to ensure they meet the assumed knowledge expectations of the subject. Students who do not possess this prior knowledge are strongly recommended against enrolling and do so at their own risk. No concessions will be made for students’ lack of prior knowledge.

Restrictions:

Students may only enrol in this subject in the second-last or final semester of their Bachelor of Laws degree, having completed 240CP of Law subjects. Students must be admitted into a Bachelor of Laws OR Bachelor of Laws combined degree.

This subject is not available as a general elective. To be eligible for enrolment, the subject must be specified in the students’ program structure.
