Healthcare Innovations: How innovation is transforming the healthcare sector

About this program

The healthcare landscape is changing and challenging the way we currently engage with healthcare services.  The population is living longer with complex and chronic conditions, and many people have increasing expectations of healthcare and technology.

The traditional, siloed approach to healthcare is becoming increasingly ineffective and inefficient in meeting patients’ needs and desires. We require a flexible health workforce that engages in lifelong learning, is technologically savvy, understands research evidence, and is able to develop different models and systems of care. We are all being challenged to upskill and prepare ourselves to lead the changes required. Health leaders who think differently can learn to thrive in an environment of disruption and create positive change.

The Master of Healthcare Innovations is offered full-time over three (3) semesters (one year), or part-time over multiple semesters. The program is delivered to small cohorts via intensive workshops supported by interactive learning resources and individualised assessments. This enables flexibility for those balancing study with work and family commitments.

What you'll be studying

  • Semester 1

You’ll develop the skills to find, critically appraise and apply research evidence to populations, communities, and individuals. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of Australia’s health system, will be facilitated to evaluate, and benchmark health systems and practices and consider ways to promote equitable systems. Finally, you’ll learn how to understand, predict, and influence behaviour in organisations using insights gained from theory, empirical research, and sharing practical experiences.

Program features

  • Degree flexibility

The Master of Healthcare Innovations can be completed in one year (full-time) or 2-4 years (part-time). The program offers flexible pathways and blended learning approaches, such as self-directed online modules, to maximise campus visits and allow capacity to balance study with work and family commitments.

  • Tailor your studies

Combine your knowledge and skills to design assessments to suit your current work situation and complete a capstone project in an area of your choice in your final semester. You will be given the opportunity to select one elective per semester (full-time) to further expand your knowledge and skills in an area of interest from a range of topics.

  • Build your network

The program offers intensive workshops facilitated by academics and researchers, with guests from various backgrounds, enabling you to build networks with thought leaders and innovators. These networks will be enhanced through attendance at our Perspectives on Healthcare Innovations events and through developing partnerships with industry.

  • Pathway into medicine

If you are interested in pursuing a medical career, high achieving graduates of the Master of Healthcare Innovations program may be eligible to enter Year 2 of the Bond Medical Program through the lateral entry pathway.

Hear from our Bondies

  • The Healthcare Innovations program has given me a new set of skills that has enabled me to achieve real change by implementing a specialist palliative care project in over 50 residential aged care facilities across the Gold Coast.

The program has been a springboard for my personal and professional growth that would have otherwise taken me years of innovation experience.

Dr Nicola Morgan - Healthcare Innovations Alumna
  • The Master of Healthcare Innovations has helped me to question and become a more critical thinker. It has already enhanced my research and presentation skills and I can see that what I’ve learned about managing people, innovation and entrepreneurship will be incredibly useful for helping me achieve my career aspirations in the years to come.

Emilie Derrington - Healthcare Innovations Alumna
  • This suite of programs that we’ve provided in Healthcare Innovations is a great professional development opportunity for existing healthcare workers, who want to combine an understanding of management and research to improve current practice. This gives them an opportunity to investigate their own local workplaces, and to plan to improve and evaluate change. Graduates will be able to navigate the research evidence, lead within complex systems and actually design and implement improvements.
