About this program

Communication skills are in high demand in all fields and most professional roles, including management and specific fields such as advertising, public relations, marketing, journalism, social media, film and television, computer animation, user-interface design, human resources, corporate training, and professional writing. The Bachelor of Communication program will provide you with the skills to stand out as an exceptional communicator in any task. Our flexible Bachelor of Communication provides you with the opportunity to explore many options in personalising your learning. As part of the program, you will select one or two majors or minors in a specific area of interest. These areas include public relations, advertising, journalism, communication and society, corporate storytelling, creative writing, digital media, film and television, and social media. Our subjects contain assessments that may lead you to produce advertising and public relations campaigns for real clients as well as blogs, podcasts, published media stories, and websites. You will also gain insight into communication in various contexts, including interpersonal, intercultural, gender, and persuasive communication. Our graduates are now working with leading advertising agencies, as award-winning investigative journalists, in public relations consultancies, in marketing roles, in corporate training, and in other roles that reflect the evolving nature of communication practices. Altogether, the degree offers students a stimulating course of study and excellent career prospects.

The Bachelor of Communication offers students the ideal mix of theory and practice, combining foundational studies in Communication and Media with focused studies in the professional disciplines of Public Relations, Advertising and Journalism. It also allows students to pursue focused studies in Communication & Society, Corporate Storytelling, Creative Writing, Digital Media, Film & TV, Media Studies, or Social Media and a combination of these fields.

What you'll be studying

  • Year 1

    In your first year, you’ll begin your communication major or minor right away, taking three subjects in it. You’ll also take foundational communication subjects such as Strategic Speaking and Writing, Communication in the Workplace, and Digital Media and Society.    In addition, you’ll complete Bond’s three unique core subjects that ensure every student develops skills in critical thinking, collaboration, leadership, and integrity, and you will begin Beyond Bond, a practical, activity-based compulsory professional development program.

  • Learn by doing

    Our classes combine theoretical learning with hands-on activities. During your studies, you may choose to intern in-house with an organisation or with an advertising or public relations agency. Past students have interned at Edelman, Ogilvy PR, Channel 7, Channel 10, and the Gold Coast Bulletin. On campus, you’ll create blogs, podcasts, media stories and websites for publication, and produce advertising schedules, public relations campaigns, and social media strategies for real clients.

  • Industry in the classroom

    Learn from industry experts. You’ll be taught by lecturers who have professional expertise in advertising, public relations, corporate writing, social media, journalism, management, creative writing, film production, consulting, and other areas.

  • Dynamic qualification

    Graduate with a broad-based qualification that gives you a competitive edge by equipping you with the fundamental skillset required in communication and related professions. You will also have one or two major or minor areas of specialisation in communication, which will broaden your career opportunities.
