Professional biography
Research interests
My main research interests include musculoskeletal disorders and health economics. I am passionate about the efficient delivery of health services and my career has included advanced-practice musculoskeletal physiotherapy, health service management positions and allied health policy development in areas of professional scope and prescribing. Consequently, my research spans clinical, economic and health services domains.
Teaching expertise
Darryn has been involved in musculoskeletal teaching to physiotherapy and medical students in a variety pre and post registration, in clinical and university settings for the majority of his career. Darryn’s expertise is in clinical musculoskeletal teaching and extended scope practice. Statement for HDR students
I have experience in quantitative research including RCT, health economics and systematic review. I am also experienced in combining clinical practice with research pursuits and health service projects.
Current projects include:
- Altered pain mechanisms and somatosensory profiling in shoulder pain
- The relationship between shoulder corticosteroid injection and response to care
- The potential role of musculoskeletal physiotherapy in primary care
- The health economics of telehealth in musculoskeletal care
- I also provide health economic input to various external projects
