It’s a long way from Toowoomba to the United Nations - but Charlotte Kath hopes receiving a Vice Chancellor’s Elite Scholarship from Bond University will make the journey easier.

Nine students from across Australia received the fully-paid scholarship that recognises academic achievement, extra-curricular involvement and contribution to the wider community.

The Fairholme College graduate aspires to work as a legal officer for the UN in an underprivileged community advocating for justice and human rights.

“I see the United Nations as an integral global organisation which would provide me with an international platform to advocate for people from all walks of life,” said Ms Kath.

Ms Kath will study a combined Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce at Bond University, based on the Gold Coast.

“Upon completion of a Bachelor of Laws and Commerce, I endeavour to use my newly gained knowledge to support others who need it most.

“While I have no firm career goal as of yet, I aim to keep these ideals at the forefront of my ambitions and would therefore relish the opportunity to work for the UN or in the disability sector,” she said.

Ms Kath has participated in a variety of fundraising opportunities for environmental and animal welfare, cancer research, domestic violence awareness and other social initiatives.

As one of the directors of Fairholme College’s Interact Club, Miss Kath helped raise money for the Domestic Violence Action Centre and co-hosted a domestic and family violence forum for her peers.

She also co-ordinated a school campaign for the Leukemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave and donated her own hair in support of the cause.
