Student Learning Support

We understand university study presents new challenges, in the form of writing essays, giving oral presentations, practicing time-management and preparing for exams. The Student Learning Support team offers personalised help, with one-on-one sessions, small group workshops and seminars to improve your skills in:

  • Academic writing
  • Organising and structuring essays
  • Time-management and study methods
  • Oral presentations
  • Citing and referencing
  • English
  • Developing critical reading skills
  • Preparing for exams
  • Maths

This service is provided for both domestic and international students at all study levels.

One on one appointments

You can bring along any essays, reports, oral presentations, PowerPoint slides, text books, assignment questions or marking criteria you may be struggling with - just make sure you print out a hard copy of whatever you need us to help you with. We cannot, however, help with content related questions and you will need to see your tutor for this.

Student Learning Support can also help academic staff in areas such as:

  • specific academic skills workshops for classes
  • blended learning materials to put on subject iLearn sites
  • support for non native speakers of English.

Learning Advisors are available for consultation with supervisors, course coordinators and lecturers to help improve the overall study experience for students.

Personal consultations are free, and students are allowed one session per week. You can book up to 14 days in advance.

  • Please bring your work printed out.
  • Please cancel a booking as soon as possible to enable another student to take your appointment. If you don’t cancel and fail to make your appointment, you may not be allowed any more sessions for the remainder of the semester.

How to make a booking

Online bookings can be made by clicking on the “Book Appointment” tab on the Student Learning Support iLearn Community site. You can book up to a fortnight in advance.
