Bandleader Lance Ferguson and his nine piece Melbourne outfit The Bamboos have come a long way since forming in 2001. Inspired by the instrumental raw funk of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s,they have become known as Australia's greatest funk and soul band.
Their fifth album Medicine Man is another revelatory record, blending an array of influences from soul, blues and pop to psychedelia. The Bamboos' energetic live shows draw the links between hip hop, soul, funk, old-school breaks, and increasingly a more guitar-heavy rock, pop and psych sound.
The Bamboos have made waves internationally, received three ARIA Award nominations, and collaborated with the likes of Aloe Blacc, Megan Washington, Daniel Merriweather, Bobby Flynn and Tim Rogers. Their 2012 single I Got Burned with Tim Rogers was voted in at number #54 in Triple J’s Hottest 100. Their songs have been licensed to hit movies including Crazy Stupid Love, and TV shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty and Underbelly.
Catch them at Bond on Sunday 24th March for their only Gold Coast show and only FREE Queensland appearance. Check out videos on The Bamboos website here.
