Having completed a Bachelor of Sports Science at Bond, Michael decided to further pursue his passion for research, completing Honours at Bond and now undertaking his PhD.

|2009||Awarded Honours scholarships by the Queensland Academy of Sport and Bond University to complete a third year of study, graduating with First Class Honours|
Awarded Australian Postgraduate Award PhD Scholarship and Queensland State Government Smart Futures PhD Scholarship (personally presented at Bond by Queensland Treasurer, the Hon Andrew Fraser)Commenced PhD research at Bond University, working with elite athletes to determine how the intensity and duration of endurance training affects the immune system
“My ultimate goal is to apply my research to developing optimised training programs for hot and humid weather conditions, such as we experience here in Queensland, to help athletes avoid illness as a result of over training.”
